Lululemon Announces New Women’s Basketball Line

NEW YORK (Mar. 27, 2024)—Lululemon (NASDAQ: LULU), the Canadian-American athletic apparel brand, is proud to announce that it will be releasing a new women’s basketball line this week. In honor of Women’s History Month, lululemon wants to expand its impact on female athletes, specifically women’s basketball players, as their talent and overall recognition in sports have been far less accounted for compared to their male counterparts for generations.

The lululemon website and storefront will now contain a women’s basketball section, providing jerseys, tanks, sweat sets, shorts, jackets, sneakers, and socks in all sizes so that girls in high school and college can indulge in lululemon’s newest handcrafted designs fitted for the women’s body, to help them achieve their optimal performance.

As a part of this new launch, lululemon will be partnering with WNBA athlete Sabrina Ionescu of the New York Liberty, and travel to ten high schools and ten colleges across the state of New York to not only give out these athletes free lululemon women’s basketball apparel, but also offer the opportunity to play with them on the court. While New York is the hub for Sabrina’s career, the state also contains the most lululemon stores in the country, allowing students to access this latest line at twelve locations.

“I started playing basketball when I was around three years old. Growing up, I would wear my dad’s baggy gym shorts and t-shirts when I went to practice shooting hoops in my yard, as clothing options were limited throughout my athletic career. It wasn’t until my WNBA debut that I had access to a basketball uniform that actually catered to my female physique. This is why I’ve decided to partner up with lululemon to help young, rising female athletes feel seen and supported as they progress toward their dreams. Women athletes have always been given less attention, whether in the media, through salary, or overall respect. Thanks to lululemon, we can ensure that women’s basketball players are given the right access and resources to feel their best when doing what they love the most,” says Sabrina Ionescu, WNBA player for the New York Liberty.

Through this launch, young female athletes will be allowed to customize their apparel. They will be given the option to choose from different types of fabrics for jackets and pants, design sports bras that come with customizable cups, purchase shorts that provide a double underwear lining catering to women’s menstrual cycles, and other female-focused designs to help these young athletes feel as comfortable as possible in their skin and on the court.
